Kelly
Air Force Base
Slated for closure and transformation into a multi-faceted, commerical
industrial/business complex run by the City of San Antonio, Kelly
AFB will be divided into five separate zones, each with a specific
industrial focus. Its many advantages are east-west and north-south
crossroads, rail service, multiple airports, direct access to shipping
ports, and millions of square feet of warehouse, storage and manufacturing
space. This multi-modal, air-industrial complex has already attracted
aerospace giants such as Boeing, Lockheed-Martin and Pratt &
Whitney.
Passenger Bus Service
Greyhound/Trailways, Kerrville Bus Company and Valley Transit.
Public Transportation
VIA Metropolitan Transit is funded through a one-half cent sales
tax, fare box revenues and federal funds. VIA operates a fleet of
498 buses and carried 37.4 million passengers in 1998. There are
eight Park & Ride facilities around the city and 138 vehicles
for elderly and handicapped passengers.
