On July 3, 1997, the
Alamo Community College Board awarded the $19,300,000 contract for the
new Northwest Vista College Campus in Westover Hills. Construction has
recently been completed on the infrastructure and on four of the first
eight buildings, totaling 150,300 square feet. The Alamo Community College
District's long range plans for Northwest Vista Campus include Phase II,
to be completed in 2002 which will bring the total campus size to approximately
285,000 square feet; Phase III, which will increase the campus square
footage to approximately 428,000 square feet, to be completed in 2006;
Phase IV, increasing the campus to approximately 571,000 square feet with
completion projected for 2010; and Phase V, completion date not yet projected,
which will bring the total build-out of the campus to approximately 657,000
square feet of building space for 11,500 students. Additionally, the Northside
Independent School District is planning to build a High Technology Magnet
High School on the Northwest Vista College Campus to help serve the many
High Tech businesses that are locating in this area. The college began
offering classes in fall 1995, with over 800 students enrolled in classes
being held at various businesses and schools in Westover Hills and the
surrounding area. On October 19, 1998, the new Northwest Vista College
Campus officially opened for classes. Northwest Vista College boasted
an impressive enrollment of 2,500 students during their first full year
of operation. |
